handmade holidays #5: a pretty bracelet for a special lady

a pretty bracelet worked in lemon jade, leather, silver based on the wrapped glow bracelet from anthropologie - because I love my friends, but that doesn't mean I have $158 to drop on each of them. I only wish these beads had been faceted; still, they're pretty, and I think they'll pair well with the colour palette of a particular lady's wardrobe.

no idea how you did that, but I'm very intrigued.

Also, have to admit, I like yours better than the inspiration piece.

Thanks, naelany! This is surprisingly easy, actually. The leather is one long piece, folded in half. I tied three knots to make three separate loops/spaces for the toggle charm to go through. Then I slipped a really long piece of beading thread through the last knot, to anchor it. Put a needle on each knot. Place a bead between the two pieces of leather. Take your left needle under the left piece of the leather, then go through the bead and come out on top of the right piece of leather. Take the right needle under the right piece of leather, go through the bead and come out on top of the left piece of leather. Does that make sense? Place the next bead and continue. Each time you go under the leather on the same side, through the bead and come out over the leather on the opposite side. The result is that the beading thread wraps around the leather, holding the bead in place. After a while, it gets a bit slippy. I've found that all you need to do to fix this is to put two stitches through the same bead (in other words, go through it with both needles twice, pulling threads taut after each time). I put an extra stitch in every 5 beads or so. At the end, you tie another knot, slip your toggle on one side and tie one final knot to keep it stabilized. I'd love to see it if you try it!

oops, sorry. The first part about needles isn't clear. Put a needle through each SIDE of the thread, on either side of the knotted leather.

again, I'd love to see if you try it out!
